SAA 7.62x39mm - 16" 1:10 HBAR Profile AR-15 Barrel

I needed a barrel to complete my 2020 Covid blaster build, since 7.62x39 is still relatively cheap. It's a very good barrel as far as I can tell. The finish is nice. The rifling looks good. Accuracy was good, able to ring steel at 300 with Tula. The only downside to this barrel is there are no set screw or dimples to line up your gas block easily. This necessitates using whatever voodoo method you prefer to line up the gas ports. Fortunately, I got it right enough the first time. Would recommend.

Pretty good overall, excellent for the price. Finishing was good, mounted up to my Anderson upper with no issues. Threading for muzzle device was clean and true to size. Gas port was dead on. I'm holding back a star because it is not drilled for set screw gas block mounting. If you opt to get the headspaced BCG with the barrel be advised it comes with a standard length firing pin which may result in light primer strikes on 7.62x39 ammo. Otherwise the BCG is pretty nice too.

Installed this barrel in an Alexander arms upper. I lapped the upper and bedded the barrel. When i zeroed the rifle, my three shot group of brown bear 124gr hp were touching at 100yds.
I'm happy.

Was able to spend a little time at the range today for an initial functions test with some crappy Red Army Standard 122gr. ammo.

Feeding and chambering were 100% with 20rnd Dura-Mags, but I was getting both light primer strikes and failure to extract. I swapped lowers from one with a JMT Saber, which didn't surprise me with a lighter hammer (sweet AR trigger, btw) to a lower with an AR Stoner Enhanced (mil-spec) trigger, and it fired fine after that.

The problems were the failure to extract, and 6 out of the 40 rounds jammed enough where I had to let the gun cool down for 10 mins before I could pull the charging handle back to extract the fired steel case.

A sample size of one isn't the best, but I was hoping this chamber would handle the cheap AK ammo without issue.

I'm buying a sample of other steel and brass-cased ammo to see what it runs well with. I'll add a new review if things improve.

Received the barrel and headspaced BCG in a timely manner (considering the SARS-CoV-2 guns/ammo/parts wildfire this year) and the parts fit perfectly into the matched billet AR upper I had laying around.

I have not been able to test it out yet, but will give the score of 5-stars based on the quick shipping time and initial quality of the parts.

My only gripe is that the gas port is not dimpled for a gas block. I ordered a clamp-on gas block from a different online retailer that still has not arrived yet, but my neighbor had a spare Geissele gas block, and gave it to me, because he is awesome. In fact he liked the parts availability on this site, and ordered a BHW 6.8SPC barrel right after I ordered this one. He like how his shoots, so there is that.

I bought this barrel/BCG combo to take advantage of the cheaper commie ammo prices, and I will not expect match/MOA/tactical sniper/Space Shuttle Door-gunner accuracy. It is a blaster.

This barrel is the perfect foundation to build on. Only concern is the feed ramps don't guide all 7.62 ammo. Consequently I have a gunsmith reworking the ramps.
