These are manufactured to military specifications. A stripper clip is designed to increase the speed at which one can load a firearm magazine. Mosin Nagant bolt action rifles were designed to load 5 rounds at a time from a stripper clip.  You can always load 1 round a time by hand, but having stripper clips already loade and ready is faster loading a full magazine by aligning the rounds in the rifle's receiver notch for the stripper clip and then pressing the top, most rear of the round straight down.  With good pressure this will load all 5 rounds into the rifle's internal box magazine in one movement. This also helps ensure the 7.62x54R rimmed rounds stack correctly, top round slightly in front of the lower one ensuring it does not hang up when stripped out of the magazine while chambering.  After this movement of loading the full 5 rounds, the stripper is simply discarded if you're in a hurry.  Otherwise, pluck it from the receiver's notch and pocket it for future use.  Being stamped steel these should last you as long as your rifle does.
