40 S&W 135 GRAIN HYDRA-SHOK JHP LOW-RECOIL FEDERAL PREMIUM
I tested these using a Pact chronograph and a S&W 40 Pro (5" barrel). Range conditions were ~61.2F, ~1035 in mg, and ~1180 ft above sea level.
Average velocity was 1189.3 fps with a very respectable standard deviation of 9.7 fps & CV .96%. This gave an average power factor of 160.555.
Typical self defense rounds will give a power of 175+ in 40 S&W and the felt recoil from this ammunition was indeed reduced. The velocity of the ammunition with the lighter bullet was higher than the typical round which should provide good expansion performance, but that was not tested during this range session.
No malfunctions occurred and I am comfortable adding this ammunition to my repertoire, particularly for those shooters that are recoil averse.
