Lead Wadcutters were designed as lower powered target rounds with very consistent powders at a lower pressure for lower felt recoil.  The full "Wadcutter" is exactly that, a flat faced projectile that works perfectly in a revolver (and the classic S&W Model 52 semi-auto pistol) and is designed to cut a perfect hole in the paper target for easy IDentification from a distance or in competition.
