30 Carbine Ammo

The .30 Carbine (7.62×33mm) is the cartridge used in the M1 Carbine introduced in the 1940s. It is a light rifle round designed to be fired from the M1 carbine's 18-inch barrel.  The M1 Carbine's invention in WWII was an early attempt at a "PDW" or "Personal Defense Weapon."  It needed to be as reliable as the M1 Garand while being very lightweight, low recoil (the M1c was semi-auto while the later M2c had a full auto option).  The 30 carbine round does look more like a long pistol caliber rather than a true rifle caliber.  The M1c was, however, a very successful weapon and used in its role as a lighter weight, handier weapon that was still capable of hits out to a couple hundred yards, it was issued to US and allied troops throughout WWII and in all theaters and also into the Korean war.  Beyond that it was surplussed and issued to allied countries like the Philippines, South Korea and Israel.
